Find Out If a Crown Is Right for You!
Our team at Sunrise Smiles is ready to help you restore your smile. Take our 2-minute quiz to find out if you're a candidate for a crown.

A better way to restore your smile

No temporary crowns
Traditional crowns require a temporary restoration while your permanent crown is made at an outside lab. Temporaries can feel uncomfortable, fall off, and leave you eating carefully for weeks. With CEREC, there is no temporary. Your permanent crown is ready before you leave.
A precise, custom fit
We use digital scanning instead of traditional impressions to capture an exact model of your tooth. That data feeds directly into our milling machine, which carves your crown from a single block of high-quality porcelain. The result is a restoration that fits accurately, looks natural, and matches the color of your surrounding teeth.

Fewer visits, less time away
Same-day crowns are ideal for busy patients who can't afford multiple appointments. What once took two or three visits now takes one. You come in, we take care of it, and you get on with your day.

Who needs a crown?
Crowns are used to protect and restore teeth that have been damaged, decayed, or weakened. You may need a crown if you have:
- A cracked or broken tooth
- A large cavity that a filling can't adequately repair
- A tooth that has had a root canal
- A worn-down tooth that needs rebuilding
- A missing tooth being restored with a dental implant

What material are CEREC crowns made from?
CEREC crowns are milled from solid blocks of dental-grade porcelain ceramic. The material is:
- Strong and durable for everyday chewing
- Matched to the color and translucency of your natural teeth
- Free of metal, making them a good option for patients with sensitivities
- Resistant to staining over time

How long do same-day crowns last?
With proper care, CEREC crowns typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. To get the most out of your crown:
- Brush and floss regularly, including around the crown
- Avoid chewing ice or very hard foods
- Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth
- Keep up with regular checkups so we can monitor the fit and condition

Exam and preparation
We'll examine the tooth and take digital X-rays to confirm a crown is the right solution. Once we've gone over the plan and you're ready to proceed, we'll numb the area and prepare the tooth by reshaping it to make room for the crown.
Digital scan
We use a small handheld scanner to take a precise 3D digital impression of your tooth and surrounding teeth. This replaces the traditional putty impression and takes just a few minutes.
Crown design
Using the digital scan, we design your crown right here in the office. The design is customized to fit your bite and match the look of your natural teeth.
Milling
Our in-office milling machine carves your crown from a block of porcelain ceramic while you wait. This typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Placement
We check the fit, make any minor adjustments, and bond the crown permanently to your tooth. We'll verify your bite before you leave to make sure everything feels right.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a crown?
The best way to find out is to come in for an exam. Signs that a crown may be needed include tooth pain, visible cracking, a large filling that is failing, or a tooth that has had a root canal. We'll take a look and give you a straightforward recommendation.
Are same-day crowns as strong as traditional crowns?
Yes. CEREC crowns are milled from high-strength dental porcelain and are designed to withstand normal biting and chewing forces. They are comparable in durability to lab-fabricated crowns.
What if my crown doesn't feel right after my visit?
Call us. Minor bite adjustments are quick and easy to take care of. We'd rather you come back than put up with any discomfort.
Is a CEREC crown covered by insurance?
Many dental insurance plans cover crowns, though coverage varies by plan. We'll verify your benefits before your appointment and give you a clear cost estimate upfront.
How do I care for my crown after placement?
Brush and floss as normal, including around the crown. Avoid chewing very hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours after placement.
Can a same-day crown be used for front teeth?
Yes. CEREC crowns work well for both front and back teeth and are designed to blend naturally with your smile.
Will my crown look like a natural tooth?
Yes. CEREC crowns are made from porcelain that is color-matched to your surrounding teeth. Most patients find them indistinguishable from natural teeth.
How is a CEREC crown different from a traditional crown?
A traditional crown requires two appointments and is made at an outside lab. A CEREC crown is designed and milled in our office during a single visit. Both produce durable, natural-looking results.
Does getting a crown hurt?
We numb the area before preparing your tooth, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some mild sensitivity around the tooth is normal for a few days after placement.
How long does a same-day crown appointment take?
Most same-day crown appointments take between 90 minutes and two hours from start to finish.
